05/27/2009   Healthy Heights online game gets people thinking about health care consumerism

Consumer actions impact the quality and costs of goods throughout our economy. Whether searching for a computer or a car, we demand value at the lowest cost. Why should health care be any different?

This line of thought is behind the Consumer Cost Education campaign that Regence launched in January of this year. Still in the first phase, the campaign hopes to get consumers to ask about the costs of health care and become more involved in health care reform.

The first phase of the campaign focuses primarily on outreach to legislators and community leaders. However, as the campaign continues, it will be extended to all consumers this summer.

As part of this Consumer Cost Education campaign, we recently released an initial launch of an online health care game called "Healthy Heights." The purpose is to give the user an understanding of how each community member's decisions impact the health care system as a whole. The player is named "Community Health Planner" and, to succeed in the game, must make decisions about how to spend the community's health care resources effectively.

Feedback from gamers during user testing indicated that this game was a fun way to communicate complex health care messages.

We encourage you to test drive Healthy Heights and send us an email to let us know what you think! A widespread launch to the broader community is coming, so expect future updates.

If you have any questions, please talk to your Regence Sales contact.
