Mary O. McWilliams selected to lead the Puget Sound Health Alliance
Yesterday, it was announced that Mary O. McWilliams, president of Regence BlueShield, is leaving the company to lead the Puget Sound Health Alliance, a nationally recognized health care community collaborative based in Seattle. Mark Ganz, president and CEO of Regence, acknowledged that "While it is a great coup for the citizens of Washington state, it is sad for all of us at Regence. Mary's strong leadership and deep knowledge of health care have created an impressive record of growth in a highly competitive market. The Alliance has been a critical partner for Regence in our efforts to transform the health care system, and we are pleased that we will continue to have an opportunity to work with her in her new role."
Regence was a founding member of the Puget Sound Health Alliance involving employers, physicians, hospitals, patients, health plans and others working together to improve quality and efficiency while reducing the rate of health care cost increases. In 2007, it became the nation's first Community Leader for Value-Driven Health Care; it has since served as a model for similar efforts across the country. Mary will replace Margaret Stanley, another Regence alumna.
We will begin the process of identifying potential replacements, with the goal of moving quickly to ensure a smooth transition for employees, employer groups and members.
