With an increasing emphasis on individual responsibility, many leading health insurers are offering a number of services to help HSA participants successfully advocate for themselves. For example, insurers may offer:
  • 24/7 Access – Convenient and confidential access to health information and advice around the clock, which helps employees use their health care benefits wisely, including:
    • 24/7 toll-free phone access to a registered nurse for confidential health information and advice.
    • Pre-recorded general health information on hundreds of topics.
    • E-mail access to nurse advisors and interactive, online services to help people evaluate symptoms and decide what to do.
    • Online access to HSA account information, balances, and transaction history.
  • Pharmacy Support – Prescription plans, medical discounts, user-friendly education tools and information about medicines and potential alternative choices.
  • U.S. National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health (NIH) Web Access – Sites provides information on thousands of prescription and over-the-counter medications, over 650 topics covering conditions, diseases and wellness, a medical encyclopedia and dictionary, interactive health tutorials, and a variety of resource links to library, health organization, and related international sites.
  • Disease Management – Early intervention programs and long-term management of chronic conditions to reduce the need for expensive procedures, hospitalizations and emergency room visits. Many programs focus on the conditions with the most impact on the members' quality of life.
