January 2002: Dental Provisions #18

Attention FEP preferred providers
The Federal Employee Program has created another dental option for federal employees and dependents. The new plan is called Basic Option and became January 1, 2002. Some of your patients who work for the federal government may choose this option for their dental coverage.

The Basic Option plan covers only certain diagnostic and preventive procedures. It also requires services to be performed by a dentist who is a preferred provider for the FEP plan.

You can identify patients with Basic Option coverage by looking for enrollment code "111" (for self only) or "112" (for self and family) on the patient's Blue Cross Blue Shield ID card.

Patients who choose the Basic Option dental plan will not have the option to take the Federal DentalBlue supplemental product.

If you would like more information about the Basic Option plan, please call your professional relations representative.
